Katiyar demands free hand for army to right terrorism
Chandigarh, July 16 (UNI) BJP general secretary Vinay Katiyar, MP today said that terrorism could only be uprooted if the army was given a ''free hand''.
Addressing a dharna organised by the Chandigarh unit of the BJP against the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai here, Mr Katiyar claimed that the Congress party was playing vote bank politics as a result of which the internal security of the country had been put to danger. The ministers of the UPA government speak in different voices on terrorism rather than taking a united stand, the mp added.
The number of incidents of terrorism had increased considerably during the two years tenure of UPA government, he claimed. He said the way the Mumbai blasts were planned and executed, ''it seems the terrorists have got definite links with the neighbouring country''.
Referring to terrorist strikes at various places including Delhi, Mumbai, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Bangalore, and Jammu and Kashmir, he said '' it looks as if there is no government existing in India.'' The BJP is of the view that all these terrorists activities are being carried out at the behest of Pakistan, he calimed The UPA-government must formulate a '' strong and solid'' policy and law to fight terrorism, he suggested.
Former MP Satya Pal Jain, Mr Yash Pal Mahajan, and senior leaders of the party participated in the protest. After the dharna they submitted a memorandum addressed to Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gen (retd) S F Rodrigues demanding stern measures to check terrorism.
