Kathipara Road overbridge work to end by 2007: Baalu

Chennai, July 16 (UNI) The ongoing road overbridge work at Kathipara Junction in the city is expected to be completed by next year, Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T R Baalu today said.

Talking to newspersons after the first concrete pour of the three-way lane connecting Inner Ring Road and the airport, Mr Baalu said grade separation work at Kathipara Junction was progressing according to schedule.

He said the work had been hastened to ensure the two lanes connecting the Inner Ring Road and the airport were completed by January so that traffic could be operated by Pongal.

Work on Irumbuliyur Subway, near Tambaram, would be completed by March 2007 while work on the Chennai Bypass Road connecting Madhavaram was progressing as per schedule, Mr Baalu added.

Asked about the proposed expansion project of Chennai Airport, he said Local Administration Minister M Stalin himself had taken up the issue with Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for action.
