Israel says to raise alert level in Tel Aviv
Jerusalem, Jul 16: Israel said it planned to raise the alert level in the commercial capital Tel Aviv today following a barrage of Hizbollah rocket fire on Haifa that killed eight people and wounded a dozen.
The Israeli army said it did not believe Tel Aviv, on the coast in central Israel, was under imminent threat and did not warn people to get into bomb shelters but said it was raising the level of alert out of precaution for possible attacks.
''I want to emphasise there is no intention at the moment to urge the residents of Tel Aviv to enter into bomb shelters or secure areas but there is an intention to increase the awareness among residents,'' army spokeswoman Miri Regev told Israeli TV.
