Gasquet clinches third career title at Swiss Open
GSTAAD, Switzerland, July 16 (Reuters) France's Richard Gasquet claimed his second title in three weeks today with a 7-6 6-7 6-3 6-3 win over Spain's Feliciano Lopez in the final of the Swiss Open.
It was Gasquet's third career title, following his triumph at the Nottingham Open in the run-up to Wimbledon where he was beaten by world number one Roger Federer in the first round.
Gasquet had to contend with some impressive serving from the hard-hitting Lopez but was frequently able to outplay and outrun his opponent with a clever variety of shots.
In the second set the Frenchman dropped just two points on his own serve while taking Lopez to deuce four times.
He failed to convert two break point chances, however, and paid the price when Lopez rallied to take the tiebreak.
There were no such mistakes in the following sets, as Gasquet's patient play was finally rewarded with three breaks of the Spaniard's serve.
