G8 wants Hizbollah gestures for end to crisis

ST PETERSBURG, Russia, July 16: German Chancellor Angela Merkel today said Group of Eight leaders were demanding Hizbollah release captured Israelis and halt attacks on Israel as the way to end an upsurge in West Asia violence.

''We demand first that the Israeli soldiers be returned to Israel healthy, that the attacks on Israel cease, and then naturally for Israel to halt military action,'' she told reporters.
