College lecturers on strike in Mizoram

Aizawl, Jul 16 (UNI) Even as the state government is gearing up to observe Teachers day on September 5, guest lecturers have gone on strike in various colleges across the state from Friday.

According to the teaching circle sources, the lecturers were unhappy with the state government over the recruitment of lecturers on contract as it stipulates that even those already working as guest lecturers need to go through an interview again.

The opined that there was no need for these guest lecturers to go through interviews again since they have already gone through hese conducted by the departmental promotion committee, when they applied for their posts.

Entering the third day of the indefinite 'no teching day' stir, students had already expressed concern that if the strike continues, it would gretly hamper their studies.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the state working committee of Teachers' Day under the chairmanship of Education Minister Dr R.Lalthangliana had decided to observe Teachers' Day on September 6 since fifth is a national holiday.
