China's Hu urges resumption of talks on N Korea

St Petersburg (Russia), Jul 16: Chinese President Hu Jintao today called for a resumption of six-party talks aimed at persuading North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons programme.

''Both sides expressed their commitment to maintain peace and stability on the Korean penninsula,'' Hu told reporters after a meeting with US President George W Bush on the sidelines of a summit of Group of Eight leaders.

''Both sides agreed to continue their efforts to move forward with the six-party talks so that at the end of the day the entire Korean penninsula can be de-nuclearised in a peaceful way through dialogue and negotiation.
