British soldier dies in Iraqi operation - military

BASRA, Iraq, July 16: One British soldier was killed and another wounded during an operation to seize a suspected 'terrorist'' in Iraq's restive southern city of Basra, the British military said.

British military spokesman Major Charlie Burbridge said yesterday two British soldiers were wounded when they came under small arms fire. They were evacuated to hospital where one later died.

There were no further details immediately available.
