Bangladesh Rifles opened firing at Indian border in Bengal
Krishnagar, Jul 16 (UNI) Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) opened fire on the Indian border in West Bengal after BSF shot dead a cattle lifter in Nadia district today, BSF DIG S Ramaswami said.
He said the BSF shot dead an Indian smuggler, identifed as Asadul Mondol (3O), while he was fleeing with many cattle heads at Maluapara under Chapra block, about 150 kms east of Kolkata.
BDR, without any provocation, opened firing at the Indian border for half an hour forcing the BSF to retaliate, the DIG confirmed.
He said while the BDR shots about fifty rounds, the BSF spent seven bullets.
BSF seized about 12 animals and retrieved mondol's body and sent for post mortem.
The victim was the resident of Udo village of Chapra block.
The exchange of firing that lasted thirty mintues casued panic among the villagers.
