AP Govt committed to work for poor: YSR

Hyderabad, Jul 16 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today reiterated his government's commitment to work for the overall development of the state.

Addressing partymen in connection with the Congress victory celebrations at 'Gandhi Bhavan' here, Dr Reddy said the government had launched several welfare programmes for welfare of all sections of the society, including women and Backward Classes.

The party's victory in the local body elections was due to the hard work of the party workers. The people also reposed confidence in the party as they observed the government's welfare programmes launched during the last two years Dr Reddy said Congress President Sonia Gandhi had given instructions to fulfil the poll promises and the state government was also working towards the goal.

The government issued ration cards to 60 to 65 per cent of the villagers and balance will be soon distributed to the eligible families.

Referring to price rise in petroleum products, he said it was necessary due to increase in the prices of imported crude oil which rose to 75 USD from 45 USD per barrel.

This resulted in hike in prices of essential commodities. The government had been monitoring the situation and taken steps to supply tamarind, chilly, rice and wheat at cheaper prices.

All pending irrigation projects in the state would be completed.

The government proposed to provide Rs 3,500 crore of loans to women 25 paise interest rate.

About 19 lakh houses had been constructed under INDIRAMMA with proposal to build another 55 lakh units in the next three years.

He appealed to party workers to take the welfare schemes of the government before the people to gain their confidence.
