200 Bangladeshis pushed back to Asom

Shillong, July 16 (UNI) Meghalaya police today picked up 650 suspected Bangladeshi nationals from 'Bangladesh colony' under Sadar police station.

State's East Khasi Hills District Additional Superintendent of Police H.M.Kharkrang said out of the 650 people 200 suspected Bangladeshi nationals were detained and later pushed back to Asom.

''We pushed them back to Asom after they failed to produce any documents,'' the police official said.

Asked why they were pushed back to Asom, Mr Kharkrang said they claimed to be from Dhubri district of Asom.

Earlier also, the state police had conducted such anti-infiltration drive against Bangladeshi nationals residing in the state.
