Two shot dead in Manipur

Imphal, JulY 15 (UNI) Two persons were shot dead in separate incidents during the past 24 hours, defence sources said.

A suspected militant was gunned down by troops of 32 Assam Rifles last evening during an encounter at Imphal East.

A hand grenade was also recovered from the slain cadre. The PIB release said that the incident took place after three men coming on two motorcycles fell down as their bikes skidded when they were signalled to halt by the 32 AR.

One of them opened fire at the security personnel while another tried to lob a hand grenade. He was shot down before he succeeded in his attempt.

Meanwhile, police recovered a man's body with bullet wounds late last night at Imphal area. They are inquiring into the incident.
