Tripura, West Bengal qualify for quarterfinal league
Chandigarh, July 15 (UNI) Title aspirants West Bengal got a walkover while Tripura trounced Maharashtra to join last year's runners-up Orissa and Uttar Pradesh in Group II quarterfinal league of the third Junior Girls Under-17 Football Tournament here today.
West Bengal got a walkover against Himachal Pradesh who did not report for the meet. With six points West Bengal topped Cluster E and qualified for the Group II quarterfinal league.
Earlier, truant Himachal Pradesh handed over victory to Rajasthan which finished with one win and one defeat in the qualifying round matches.
At Ground Number two, Shyamli Debbarma was in terrific form as Tripura shattered the hopes of Maharashtra by trouncing them with a 12-0 margin. Shymali alone contributed seven goals. She started her goal-scoring spree in the third minute and went on to score in the 25th, 32nd, 47th, 65th, 70th and 74th minutes.
Gaya Rani Debbarma (6th), Anita Debbarma (22nd), Rupati Debbarma (23rd), Swarna Rani Debbarma (57th) and Mani Karmakar (78th) contributed one goal each.
Holders Manipur (cluster A), strong contenders Tamil Nadu (cluster C) and Haryana (cluster D) have made it to Group I quarterfinal league. The winners of the match between Punjab and Assam will decide the fourth Group I League quarter-fianlists from cluster H this evening.
