Sorabjee conferred with LL.D
Hyderabad, July 15 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice and the Chancellor of National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University of Law today conferred former Attorney General of India Soli J Sorabjee with the Doctorate of Law (LL.D).
Accepting the honour at the fourth annual convocation of NALSAR here, Mr Sorabjee said the main objective of the legal profession was public service and the practitioners must have a service-oriented mindset.
Expressing concern over increasing commercialism in the field, he said ''we must curb the practice of excessive fee demanded by law practitioners from the clients.
Stating that those aiming at pecuniary gains should opt for real estate, stock broking or import and export business, he said only those people with an ''obsession to serve'' should choose practising law.
Calling upon the law fraternity to unitedly fight against the politicisation of the profession, Mr Sorabjee said the profession should have social dimensions.
Mr Sorabjee, who served as Additional Solicitor General and Solicitor General from 1977 to 1980, was also the Attorney General from 1989 to 1990 and from April 1998 to May 2004.
