Sakthi Sugars to set up more units in TN

Coimbatore, July 15: Sakthi Sugars Limited will start one more crushing unit and two more co-generation plants in Tamil Nadu, Company Vice-Chairman and Managing Director M Manickam said today.

Addressing a press conference here to disclose the company's audit results, he said the company had approached the State government and the government had to identify the place to setup the units.

He said the proposed new crushing unit would have the capacity of crushing 3500 tonnes of cane per day and the two new co-generation plants would produce 85 mw power.

The company had three crushing units, two in Tamil Nadu and one in Orissa.

He said the company had made a net profit of Rs 98.45 crore in the last financial year. The turn over of the company reached Rs 877.81 crore compared to Rs 618.92 crore last year.

Mr Manickam said the Centre's circular banning the sugar export would adversely affect the industry and the industry had demanded that the Centre must lift the ban.

He said at present the country produced 19.5 million tonnes of sugar and the domestic consumption was 19 million tonnes.

The price of sugar in India was very less compared to the world market price, he added.
