Pune continues to be on high alert after 7/11

Pune, July 15 (UNI) Pune continues to be on high alert after the serial bomb blasts on the western local trains in Mumbai on 7/11.

City Police Commissioner D N Jadhav told UNI, ''We are in position to provide security cover to the entire city within 30-35 minutes of receiving a tip-off of an incident,'' he said.

Ever since the blasts, Pune police have cordoned off entry points to the city. There are nakabandis everywhere by the traffic police and additional wireless equipment and walky-talkie sets have been provided. Groups of policemen can be seen all over the city.

The bomb disposal squads have been combing and checking railway stations, airport and public places like bus stops, hotels, lodges, and theatres regularly with the aid of sniffer dogs. Tourist spots like Lonavala have also got security cover from the Pune rural police.

So far, no arrest of SIMI activists or any militant has been made. The police have, however, detained 70 anti-social elements as a precautionary measure.
