Online counselling for technical education in Haryana

Chandigarh, July 15 (UNI) The Department of Technical Education, Haryana, has introduced online counselling for all the technical courses in the government, government-aided institutes, universities, colleges and private institutions in the state.

This was stated by Justice R K Nehru (retd), chairman of Haryana State Fee and Admission Committee, while chairing a meeting of the Committee in which the representatives of the self-financing colleges also participated.

He said the total number of seats in all these courses were nearly 30,000. The result of the first phase of online counseling was declared on July 13.

Out of the total 14,695 seats, 1,308 NRIs seats and 473 minority seats were to be filled by the institutes as per the provisions of the Supreme Court decision in a judgement declared on August 12, 2005.

He stated that the online counselling for the remaining 12,914 seats in 44 colleges was done and 12,800 seats were allotted. Only 54 seats for reserved category were lying vacant.

He said for the first time, 100 per cent seats in all the colleges, including newly-established colleges, had been filled up.

He stressed on the creation of quality infrastructure in the colleges so that all the colleges could be accredited to AICTE and the technical manpower produced by these colleges could get employment immediately after completing the course.

He also emphasised the need for formulating a comprehensive scheme for providing scholarships and freeships by private colleges to the financially weaker sections and backward classes of society.
