Nitish mulls permanent solution of waterlogging

Patna, Jul 15 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today expressed concern over the problems being faced due to waterlogging and said his government is planning a permanent solution to the menace.

Mr Kumar told newspersons here that the existing sewarage and drainage system was in a bad shape and the problem had been compounded due to encroachments.

Getting tough towards the encroachers, who have constructed either shop or house, he said such constructions would be demolished in the interest of the people.

He said the government has appointed consultants for constructing drains and sewarages to save the state capital and other places from waterlogging problems.

He said there would be no fund crunch and the government would arrange financial assistance even through loan for constructing effective drainage and sewarage system.

The Chief Minister assured that the situation would be definitely better by next year but the people would have to bear with the situation in the current monsoon season if they at all want a permanent solution to the problem.

Mr Kumar said he was well aware of the fall out of waterlogging which was continuing for the past three to four days in several areas of the state capital.

He said he was well prepared to fight the situation.

DDT and other strong insecticides would be sprayed in the affected areas once the water recedes, he said.
