Sex racket: Lawyers' strike enters 18th day
Jammu, July 15: The indefinite strike of lawyers in Jammu and Kashmir's winter capital, demanding transfer of the high-profile sex scandal case here from Srinagar, entered the 18th day today.
The lawyers, who started indefinite strike on June 28 against denial of right of defence and threat issued to lawyers in Srinagar while representing their clients, were absent from court proceedings.
The lawyers have been demanding the case be tried in any court outside the Kashmir Valley. The protests hit work in the High Court and other sub-ordinate courts of the state.
Jammu Bar Association president Ved Raj Wazir said the strike would go on till the JBA demand of transfer of cases for fair trial outside the Valley was not met with.
The JBA had already sent representations to the Chief Justice of India, Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, state Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary in this regard.
