Free rice scheme inaugurated on Kamaraj birth anniversary
Pondicherry, July 15 (UNI) Pondicherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy inaugurated the free rice scheme in the Union Territory to mark the 104 birth anniversary celebration of veteran Congress leader and former Tamil Nadu Chief minister K Kamaraj, here today.
As announced in the election manifesto the Chief Minister inaugurated the scheme by providing ten-kg free rice to a few people as a token at the pedestal of the Kamaraj statue. Under the scheme all the ration card-holders in the Union territory will get ten-kg free rice every month from July.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Rangasamy said as many as 2.97 lakh family card-holders will be benefitted and the exchequer will incur an additional expenditure of Rs.36 crore per annum.
