Elvis, Beatles songs enthrall Shillongites

Shillong, July 15 (UNI) Late last evening the music of Elvis Presley and The Beatles rocked the jam-packed auditorium hall here.

The hall, which has a capacity of 1000 was jam-packed, as both young and old die hard fans of the legendary singing icons Elvis Presley and the Beatles from the region as far as Manipur came to listen to the evergreen songs.

''Who will miss a concert paying tribute to the King of Rock'', said 50 year-old Joy Singh, who is accompanied by his wife Memcha Devi.

''The king of Rock and Roll is still alive and everyone out here is feeling great to listen to Elvis songs and to see young and old musician clone themselves as Elvis,'' said an over-joyed Lily Khyriem.

Like Mrs Khyriem many others felt that such shows should be an annual event in this hill-station to attract tourists.

The Fashion Society Shillong, which organized the show for the second time, has decided to make it an annual event following the demand from the city-based resident and old fans from the region.

The four-and-half hour event started with renowned rock band Revel Soul opening up a The Beatles number ''Get Back'' and followed by other three-rock bands-Colours, Felixes, Snow White and Bandsman and 12 artists from Nagaland, Mizoram and Meghalaya. The real show started when Rapborlang Kharbihkhiew dressed up like Elvis entertained the crowd with one of the Rock&Roll king's number ''Wherever You Go''.

Mr. Kharbihkhiew, a short guy but who cloned himself as Elvis in many of the concerts in the country, entertained the fans with songs and even captured the crowds with Elvis style of talking and action.

Then came Headingson Rynthathaing another well-known Elvis clone entertained the Elvis fans with his greatest love song ''Can't Help Falling In Love'', ''Pledge My Love'', ''It's Now or Never'' and a Medley.

Mr. Rynthathiang whose music idol is Elvis Presley even came out with an album name Tribute to Elvis.

Others who entertained the fans include Lui (of Wave band) and Bubu from Nagaland, Juliet, SPi Mami Varte and Mini Renthlei from Mizoram and Gracyl Ropmay and Marvel Lyngwa.
