'Cong vitiating poll atmosphere for fear of defeat'
New Delhi, July 15: Charging the Congress Government in the MCD of vitiating the election atmosphere in the Subhash Nagar area, where MCD bypolls are scheduled for July 23, the BJP today expressed confidence that BJP candidate Meera Kanwaria would win by a heavy margin in the ward.
Addressing reporters here, Senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra said given the widespread anger against the Congress among the people due to the price hike and scarcity of water and power, the victory of the BJP candidate from the Subhash nagar ward was a certainty.
Mr Malhotra alleged that it was due to fear of its impending defeat in the MCD bypoll that the Congress was busy vitiating the election atmosphere with the help of anti-social elements, money and muscle power and by distributing wine in the area.
On its part, Mr Malhotra said the BJP was leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the win for its candidate. In this context, he said a public meeting would be held in the area which would be addressed by senior BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley.
The BJP has also sought the help of its star campaigners like Navjot Singh Sidhu to campaign for Mrs Meera Kanwaria in the coming days.
Speaking on the occasion, leader of the opposition in the Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi said for the first time, the BJP had ensured that polling activity in and around each of the 63 polling booths in the area were supervised by a party activist.
Mr Harsharan Singh Balli, who is the BJP election incharge for the area, said a victory in the Subhash Nagar ward Bypoll would serve as the foundation stone for its vistory in next year's MCD polls.
