CNG to be introduced in Agartala from first week of September

Agartala, July 15 (UNI) The Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Limited (TNGCL), in collaboration with the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), will introduce Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for vehicles here from the first week of September.

This was revealed by the Director (Commercial) of TNGCL Mr T Premkumar.

Speaking to UNI, he said the introduction of CNG for vehicles in Agartala would be the first in eastern India.

''Two CNG stations, one at Arundhati(AD) Nagar and another at Hapania, has already been setup. The AD Nagar will be for the three- wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles. The station at Hapania, which is also the 'mother station' will be for both the light as well as heavy vehicles,'' Mr Premkumar added.

He also mentioned that each station has been constructed at a cost of approximately three crores. ''Both the stations will be run by the TNGCL.'' He further mentioned that first the autorickshaws will be converted to CNG. ''The CNG kit for three-wheeler will cost Rs 25,000, whereas the CNG kit for four-wheeler will cost Rs 40,000.

Our first mission will be to convert light vehicles which run on auto-fuels into CNG. Then we will concentrate on heavy vehicles,'' Mr Premkumar added.

When asked whether the TNGCL will start such projects in other parts of the state, Mr Premkumar said they plan to start simultaneous CNG projects in Udaipur and Dharmanagar, subject to the gas availability of gas. ''Our dream is to make Tripura a green state'' he added.

The TNGCL has been supplying domestic natural gas to more than 5500 house holds, over a hundred commercial establishments and 10 industrial units in and around the capital city.
