Amarnath yatra resumes after 3 days
Srinagar, July 15: The Amarnath yatra resumed from both Baltal and Pahalgam routes this morning after remaining suspended for three days due to snowfall and heavy rains, triggering land and mudslides.
More than 2.2 lakh pilgrims have so far visited the holy icelingam in the cave shrine since the commencement of the yatra on July 11. However, 34 pilgrims have died during the same period.
Official sources said yatra resumed this morning from both shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam routes following improvement in the weather condition.
Both the routes are safe now and all the stranded pilgrims were allowed to leave for the cave shrine, sources said.
The yatra was suspended on July 12 after snowfall and heavy rains lashed the entire belt making the pilgrimage risky because of slippery track.
