28 policemen injured in road accident

Chennai, July 15 (UNI) Twenty-eight policemen, including eight women police personnel attached to the Tamil Nadu Special Police-5 Battalion Avadi, were injured when the police bus in which they were travelling plunged into a 20-foot-deep gorge after crashing through the barricade on the Irumbuliyur railway overbridge at suburban Tambaram here today.

Police said the accident occurred when a police party was on its way to Hanumanthapuram Shooting range for undertaking training. The driver of the vehicle, who attempted to overtake another vehicle, lost control of the bus and it plunged into the gorge.

The injured were admitted to Hindu Mission Hospital Tambaram, Government hospital, Chrompet and Government General hospital here, police added.
