25 KG tumour taken out from a child's stomach

Kathmandu, July 15 (UNI) Doctors in Nepal have taken out 25 kilogram of tumour from the stomach of a child, local media report said.

The tumour was taken out from the stomach of 11-year-old Aitamaya Limbu at Birat hospital in eastern Nepal, The Himalayan Times said.

Aitamaya's belly had been swelling for the past nine months, family members said.

The tumour, 39x27 centimetres, that extended from the uterus to the heart was taken out, said Dr Gyanendra Karki, who was involved in the operation.

''It is the largest tumour taken out from a patient of this age group in Nepal,'' Dr Karki said.

''Villagers even accused Aitamaya of being pregnant. However, they stopped their tongue-wagging when her belly got larger and larger," said the father of the child.
