Vijayawada Electric Loco Shed's silver jubilee year fete

Vijayawada, July 14 (UNI) The South Central Railway (SCR) today celebrated the silver jubilee of the electric loco shed here.

The loco shed began operations as part of Vijayawda-Madras Railway Electrification Project on April 12, 1981. It maintained various types of locomotives, including the first indigenous BG and A/C electric locomotive 'Bidhan.' Now, it housed 150 electric locomotives. It's landmarks include the highest improvement in maintenance practice of electric locomotives among all sheds of Indian Railways and bringing down failure rate by duly improving the reliability and safety of the engines.The shed obtained 'ISO 9001:2000' in May 2006.

The loco shed also set up in-house Basic Training Centre (BTC) to explore human resources and update knowledge in technical aspects for safe services.

The Electric Traction Training Centre (ETTC) imparted training for operating personnel for safe services.

Railway Board Member Ramesh Chandra and SCR General Manager D N Mathur participated in the jubilee celebrations.
