Ukrainian Nevmyvaka banned for doping

KIEV, July 14 (Reuters) Ukraine under-21 international defender Dmitry Nevmyvaka has been banned for a year after testing positive for a banned substance, Ukrainian media reported today.

The ruling by the Professional Soccer League (PFL) confirmed a suspension was handed down to the Zaporizha Metalurg player at the end of last month's European under-21 championship in which Ukraine were runners-up.

That ruling kept Nevmyvaka out of the Ukraine senior team at the World Cup in Germany.

Ukraine's soccer federation said last month that Nevmyvaka has had periodic problems with blood pressure and took the banned substance tenorik on the advice of a local doctor without consulting team officials.

His club have until July 15 to appeal the decision.
