Steep fee hike in BHU
Varanasi, July 14 (UNI) Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has decided to hike fees for all its educational courses two to four-fold.
The decision was taken last evening at a meeting of the Academic Council of the biggest Asian university, official sources said here today.
The annual fee for B Com, BA, BFA and B Mus has been raised from Rs 530 to Rs 1,846, while for B Sc and B SC (Agriculture) enhanced from Rs 560 to Rs 2,266.
The Council also decided to raise the annual fee for BEd from Rs 1,560 to Rs 3,246.
Sources said it was decided to raise the fee of bachelor degree programme in Law from Rs 602 to Rs 2,096, from Rs Rs 557 to Rs 2,596 in MA, M Com, MFA, M A (Mass Communication) and M Mus.
The annual fee for MBA and MIBA has been exceeded from Rs 5,706 to 14,246, while in MCA from Rs 5,914 to 11,596.
The annual fee for graduate diploma has been enhanced from Rs 142 to Rs 1,796 and that for Post Graduate Diploma has been hiked from Rs 580 to Rs 2236.
The fee structure of all educational programmes being run by the premier central university was static for the last two decades and the fee hike was approved by the Council in line with the recommendations of two committees -- D K Rai and Gajendra Singh Committee -- constituted to look into this crucial issue.
The Academic Council also decided hike the hostel fee for Indian students from Rs 2,935 to Rs 5,810 and from Rs 4,010 to Rs 7,850 for foreign students, sources said.
The hiked rates will be applicable from the present academic session only, the sources added.
