Self-financing college act not anti-minority: LDF

Thiruvananthapuram, July 14 (UNI) The ruling Marxist-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala today brushed aside the criticism that the newly-enacted legislation to fix the fee structure and the admission procedures in the self-financing professional colleges was 'anti-minority.' ''It is absolutely baseless that we are against the minorities.

There is no reason for the LDF to oppose them. In fact, we stand for protecting the rights of minorities,'' Front Convener Vaikom Viswan told newspersons here after a meeting of the LDF.

He said it was ironic that the Congress-led United Democratic Front which supported the bill in the state Assembly was also helping in one way or the other the disinformation campaign being launched by a section.

The new legislation was a serious attempt on the part of the government to solve the problems in the higher education sector.

Discussions were being held among the Front constituents on the issue of allocating the political postings to various boards and corporation, he added.
