Security beefed up in Andaman: SP
Port Blair, July 14 (UNI) The security of the Andaman and Nicobar islands has been beefed up in view of the serial bomb blast in Mumbai, Andaman Superintendent of Police Jaspal Singh said today.
''Though the islands do not face direct threat from the terrorist outfits working against the country, the security has been tightened as precautionary measures,'' Mr Singh told reporters in Port Blair.
Extra security personnel have been deployed by the Andaman and Nicobar Police in areas where extra vigil is needed.
In addition, vigil is kept on people arriving from the mainland, Mr Singh added.
It is believed that many Bangladeshies enter Andaman and Nicobar islands illegally in search of job via Kolkata, which poses a security risk here.
Andaman and Nicobar is a chain of 572 small islands situated in Bay of Bengal. These islands are regularly invaded by poachers from South East Asian Country. A Chinese base in 'Coco Island,' situated near Andaman, is another major security threat, security experts said.
