Plant disease noticed in Bt cotton fields in AP : DDS

Hyderabad, Jul 14 (UNI) Deccan Development Society (DDS), an NGO working on issues of sustainable agriculture has noticed plant disease in Bt cotton fields in Bhonir village in Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh.

DDS Consultant M A Abdul Qayum, who vistied the fields recently, in a press release here today said ''the middle order leaves were exhibting necrotic spots along the narrow wrinkled fold of the leaves tissue. The top leaves and growing buds were green and healthy, but growth seems to be stunted as all fields were exhibiting the same symptoms''.

Urging the Agricultural University to send scientists and study the affected fields to carry out a first hand investigation of the symptoms , Mr Qayum said the Bt cotton fields with Bt Rasi-2 and non Bt hydrids were badly affected, the release added.
