Nepal leaders hold talks with Maoists

Kathmandu, July 14 (UNI) Top leaders of Nepal's Seven Party Alliance (SPA) and Maoists are holding talks at Godhavari today.

Mr Madhav Kumar, Mr Amrit Bohora, Mr Bamdev Gautam, Mr Jhalanath Khanal of CPN UML and Mr Sushil Koirala, Mr Ramchandra Paudel, Mr Chakra Bastola, Mr Mahesh Acharya of Nepali Congress are holding talks with the chairman of Maoists Prachanda and other senior Maoist leaders.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala could not join the talks due to ill health.

According to reports, they will discuss the issues relating to implementation of the eight-point accord reached between the Seven-Party Alliance and the Maoists during the summit talks held last month.

They will also discuss the issue of arms management and monitoring of the ceasefire.

This is the first time that the government and the Maoists are sitting for talks after reaching the eight-point accord, which has been criticised by certain factions of the Seven Party Alliance specially over the agreement to dissolve the House of Representatives.
