Naval team rescues injured Filipino crewman from tanker
Kochi, Jul 14 (UNI) Responding to an SOS, a naval rescue team from the Southern Naval Command headquarters here this evening airlifted an injured Filipino crewman from an off-shore tanker and brought him here for treatment.
A naval spokesman said here that responding to a request from the Coast Guard about an injured crewman aboard the tanker MV Borag, a Seaking helicopter was launched from INS Garuda here despite low visibility and heavy rains this evening.
Piloting the Seaking, Cdr Ravi Sohonee and Cdr IA Manivanan were able to successfully evacuate the injured crewman, Yap Michael, from the tanker, which was about five miles off the Kochi coast.
The Filipino, who had apparently suffered injures on his face while working on the deck was airlifted to INS Garuda and subsequently shifted to the Medical Trust Hospital, where his condition was reported to be stable.
