Myanmar apologises for 'mistaken identity' attack on Thai chopper
Bangkok, July 14 (UNI) Myanmar has apologised for the firing on a Thai army helicopter over their common boundary early this week, saying the attack was a case of mistaken identity.
The explanation was offered at a meeting of senior Thai and Myanmarese army officials yesterday at the northern Thai-Myanmar border.
According to Myanmarese army officials, the Thai army supply helicopter was shot at by a young Myanmar soldier who panicked on seeing the aircraft over his border post.
Disciplinary action had been taken against the soldier and his superior, they informed.
The incident had raised apprehensions of a border clash, with a contingent of Thai troops being despatched to the border.
