Arunachal to have mountaineering institute
Itanagar, Jul 14: The Arunachal Pradesh government is contemplating setting up an adventure sports-cum-mountaineering institute at Sarkam under Upper Siang district through NEC sponsored scheme. This was announced by Chief Minister Gegong Apang at Yingkiong, the district headquarters, yesterday during his day-long visit to East and Upper Siang districts, informed official sources here today. "The institute would boost the abundant tourism potential of the district," the chief minister said while pleading the villagers of Simong and Komkar to donate some land for the purpose.
Necessary compensation would be paid if required to avoid any inconvenience in the future, Mr Apang said adding, proper demarcation of land had to made and encroachment will be not tolerated.
He further informed that the state government was also planning for developing biodiversity projects in the area as it was in the central part of the state with conducive weather.
Unlike other states Arunachal with its sparse population and pristine environment was just the right place for important biodiversity projects.
The chief minister while addressing a public meeting called upon the officers and public leaders to cooperate with each other and make the district a model one in the state.
While urging them to work hand in hand for rapid development and smooth implementation of projects, he added that interference results in stagnation of all developmental projects.
He also informed that members of Future Generation, a NGO would visit the district to take up important tourism projects, sources added.
