Modi twisted Rajiv Gandhi Foudnation report: Jairam

Ahmedabad, July 14 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh today said that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's claim that the state had achieved No 1 position during his regime, based on a Rajiv Gandhi Foundation Trust report, was false.

Mr Jairam said the report covers the period upto 2001 and Mr Modi assumed power towards the end of that year.

Talking to reporters at the Circuit House here, the Union Minister said Gujarat had maintained the status of one of the leading states in industrial development since the last five decades, irrespective of the party at power in the state and Centre.

When asked, Mr Jairam said Gujarat has always been in the forefront in respect of industries and trade developments because of inherent business mindset of the local people. Thus, no party or any individual could claim credit for the financial and industrial soundness of the state.
