Minority community members protest against mosque ransacking

Surat, July 14 (UNI) A 200-member group belonging to the minority community members, today organised a protest against the VHP's alleged attempt to ransack a mosque at the Udhna Darwaja area here yesterday.

After the afternoon ''namaz'' at the mosque, the group gathered at the busy Ring Road area near the mosque and shouted slogans aginst the ''police inaction'' in yesterdays incident.

Later, the police asked them to move away from the busy road and this created some tension. Some people pelted stones and three cars parked on the road side were damaged. The police used mild force to quell the crowd, sources said.

In Salabatpura area also, a group organised protest and teargas shells were used to disperse the crowd, police sources said.
