MCD urges Govt depts, citizens to initiate steps to prevent dengue
New Delhi, July 14 (UNI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has appealed to government departments, educational institutions and citizens to initiate adequate steps to prevent mosquito breeding in the capital to prevent any outbreak of dengue.
In a letter written to heads of all government and semi-government departments, educational institutions and owners and occupants of commercial complexes, MCD Commissioner Ashok Kumar Nigam appealed to initiate adequate steps to prevent mosquito breeding.
Mr Nigam said checking teams of the MCD and the National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme of the government had detected high index of mosquito breeding from various localities of Delhi.
''At present, 90 per cent of breeding has been found in desert coolers. The conditions during monsoon season are congenial for breeding of aedes aegypty. It is, therefore, imperative-that necessary steps should be initiated to curb mosquito breeding at offices/commercial complexes and residential areas,''Mr Nigam said.
The Commissioner said effective control of the disease was not possible unless suitable steps were taken.
MCD is launching a special drive for checking mosquito breeding and defaulters will be prosecuted.
