K'taka Council concerned about Koyna dam condition
Bangalore, July 14 (UNI) Several districts in North Karnataka downstream the Koyna dam in neighbouring Maharashtra are in danger as the reservoir, located in the seismic zone, faced the threat of breaking down, Karnataka Water Resources Minister K S Eshwarappa told the Legislative Council today.
In a written reply to a query from Mr Shashil Namoshi (BJP) on the dam's condition, he said the state government had written a letter to the Maharashtra government seeking details about the safety aspects of the dam.
He said that though media reports claim that the dam was on the verge of breaking down, the government did not have any scientific data in this regard.
He said the state government had not received any reports on the damage suffered by the dam due due to earthquakes that occurred in its adjoining areas in the past.
