India to host inaugural Asian Hopman Cup in Nov
New Delhi, July 14 (UNI) The Hopman Cup will appear in an Asian avtar with India hosting the event for the next three years.
The All India Tennis Federation has been allotted the Asian Hopman Cup for a period if three years, starting this year and Delhi will host the first edition from November 13.
Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Uzbekistan and China will be invited to compete with their Indian counterparts in the event, which would offer 20,000 dollars for the winners and 12,000 for runners-up.
This is fallout of the Asian Tennis Federation's (ATF) agreement with the Hopman Cup for the annual event, before the original Hopman Cup -- named after legendary Australian coach Harry Hopman -- which is played in Perth in December-January.
The inaugural Asian Hopman Cup is expected to feature leading Asian stars, including Paradorn Srichapan (Thailand), Wang Yeu-Tzuoo (Chinese Taipei), Ai Sugiyama (Japan) and the Indian duo of Leander Paes and Sania Mirza, an AITF release said here today.
