HC directs CBI to complete scholarship probe in 3 months

Allahabad, July 14 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court has directed the CBI to mandatorily complete investigation within a period of three months in the scholarship scam dating back to the year 2002, involving several government departments.

Passing the order, a bench comprising Mr Justice Amitabh Lala and Mr Justice Shiv Shanker termed the matter as "serious in nature involving a scam of several crores of rupees" involving the Disabled Welfare department, Social Welfare department and Minorities Welfare department.

The court said on several earlier occasions too, the CBI was given extended time following requests from its counsel.

The matter was taken up in 2002 on a writ petition filed by Dr K L Verma, the then DIO of Kanpur. The court had directed the CBI on January 22, 2002, to investigate the scam within four months.

Thereafter, on several occasions, more time was granted.

Now the court has disposed off the case finally granting three months time to CBI to complete the investigations.
