Haryana to upgrade facilities in view of Commonwealth Games

Chandigarh, July 14 (UNI) The Haryana Government has decided to further develop the existing sports facilities and set up sports stadia in the state in view of the Commonwealth Games to be held in 2010 in Delhi.

Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Phool Chand Mullana here today said that India would host the Commonwealth Games 2010 and due to the close proximity of the state with Delhi, it had been felt that modernised facilities would be provided to the stadia located in the National Capital Region and other districts of the state. The players of the region would be provided better opportunities for training and exposure in the village stadium resultantly excelling in their respective field and giving a better performance to bring laurels to the nation.

Mr Mullana said that a Cricket stadium was being set up at Gurgaon on the pattern of Mohali Cricket Stadium. National level sports facilities were being provided at Faridabad Sports Complex.

He said that the facilities at Golf Course, Panchkula would be upgraded and modernized.

He said that world level sports facilities would be provided at the sports complexes of Bhiwani, Kurukshetra and Karnal.

The Forests Department had been urged to carry out massive plantation drive along the the boundary walls of the stadia of the state so that to keep the environment might be kept neat and clean and pollution free.
