Haryana to construct 119 rural sports stadia

Chandigarh, July 14 (UNI) The Haryana Government has decided to construct 119 rural sports stadia covering each block of the state to tap talented sportspersons of the rural areas.

These stadia would be of two types, one with multipurpose halls and another without any multipurpose halls, depending upon the availability of land.

Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Phool Chand Mullana here today said that the survey work to set up these stadia was in progress and the Sports Department had already prepared a list of 119 villages where these stadia would be constructed.

The gram panchayats would provide land free of cost to the District Sports Council headed by Deputy Commissioner with District Sports Officers as Member Secretary.

He further informed that an estimated cost of Rs 40 lakh would be incurred on each stadium with multipurpose halls and Rs 20 lakh on the other kind.

He said that a 400 meters athletic track would be laid in each stadium and Hockey or football field would be constructed inside the tracks.

He said that the sports field would be prepared according to the popularity of the sport in the concerned area and similarly other sports facilities would also be provided.

He said that each stadium would have a sitting capacity of 300 spectators and a separate enclosure would be made for VIPs.

He said that the stadium would have a room to store the sports equipments, gym centres depending upon the necessity and separate wash rooms for the girls and boys.

The entire stadium would be enclosed with the boundary wall.

The Sports Minister said that the maintenance of the stadia near the schools would be kept by the PTIs otherwise the officials of the Sports Department would maintain the stadia. Provisions would also be made in the budget of Sports Department to provide sports equipments and technical facilities for these stadia, he added.
