Fire breaks out in UNI office building

Chandigarh, July 14 (UNI) Panic gripped people in a busy commercial complex here which also houses UNI regional office, when a fire broke out at the entrance and thick smoke engulfed the staircase which the only exit.

The fire, caused by a short circuit in electrical meters installed right at the entrance of the building in Sector 22, was extinguished after about half an hour by fire tenders.

Meanwhile, the thick fumes drove all the employees working in various offices, to the outermost room from where they shouted for help.

Many complained of nausea, choking and burning sensation in the eyes.

They were however, safely evacuated.
