DuPont to donate 5% earning of Rakhi envelopes to SOS

New Delhi, July 14 (UNI) DuPont today announced that it would donate five per cent of its every Rakhi envelope sold by the India Post, to the SOS Children's Village.

Launched country-wide today, each envelope costs Rs 5, and would be available at all retail outlets of India Post from July 17. The postage charges will be extra.

''This is DuPont's first tie up in government sector. We assure that Rakhis sent this year through India Post in these premium tear and water resistant Tyvek envelopes will reach brothers secured and protected,'' DuPont India President and CEO Balwinder S Kalsi told reporters here.

Unveling the new envelopes, Department of Posts Secretary Jyotsna Diesh said, ''It is first step (of the department) in providing packaging services to the customers, and there is a lot more to be done.'' ''We will come up with more such products in the near future to provide customer satisfaction,'' she added.

DuPont also announced sponsorship of four SOS students for a year.

However, DuPont has yet not recieved order of supply from India Post, but expects ''a good business from the Rakhi project''.

The postal department of country delivers several lakhs of Rakhis each season across the country.

India Post, which is in existence for the last over one-and-half century, has initiated several steps to improve its services.

The department is facing stiff competition from private courier services and the increasing usage of e-mail, which are affecting its bottom-line adversely.

Although government plans to revive India Post as its earning arm, analysts say the move would counter government's own policy of encouraging the private sector.
