Crop wise production to be increased through agri policy
Patna, July 14 (UNI) Bihar government has drafted an agriculture policy proposal to help farmers increase their incomes through growth in the farm sector and also through rise in cropwise production.
Agriculture Production Commissioner A.K. Sinha told newspersons here that the mediapersons should cooperate in elaborate discussions on the agriculture policy proposal for the benefit of farmers living in the remote areas of the state.
He said production of pulses and maize was higher than the national level but still below the highest producing state in the said items.
Mr Sinha said Bihar was not only endowed with the alluvial land but also with sufficient water resources and favourable climatic conditions.
He said the state was self sufficient in the food security but the target had been fixed at increasing the foodgrain production from the present 11 lakh metric tonnes to 195 lakh metric tonnes in the next ten years.
He said Rajendra Agriculture University was successful in developing improved varities of paddy, wheat, maize and other crops.
