Congress allege of "narrow politics" on BPL list issue

Kolkata, July 14 (UNI) The West Bengal Pradesh Congress today alleged that the state government is carrying on ''narrow politics'' by deciding to publish the Below Poverty Line (BPL) lists afresh.

''It is unfortunate that the CPI (M)-led Left Front government is intentionally depriving the poor people of their legal dues. The lists should be prepared properly,'' West Bengal Pradesh Congress working president Pradip Bhattacharjee told newspersons.

He said earlier the party had urged the ruling government to call an all party meeting to discuss the issue before publishing the lists but they did not do so.

''We have instructed the party leaders and workers to demonstrate in front of every district sub-division offices and submit memorandum on July 31 for publishing the accurate BPL lists,'' he said.

Mr Bhattacharjee also said the party would observe anti-terrorism day at the Town Hall on July 17.

Former PCC president Pranab Mukherjee and party leader Somen Mitra will be present on the occasion on July 17.
