CJ inaugurates HC annexe building

Mumbai, July 14 (UNI) Bombay High Court Chief Justice Kshitij Vyas today inaugurated the court's annexe building today. A polyclinic, and a lounge for the judges were also inaugurated.

The High Court has a rich history. The Queen of England had issued the Charter for the Bombay High Court on June 26, 1862 and the court, housed in a building on Apollo Street called the Admiralty House where the Recorder's Court and the Supreme Court held their sittings, was inaugurated on August 14 the same year.

The work on the present building of the High Court commenced in April 1871 and completed in November 1878. It is situated between the University Building and the Public Work Secretariat. The main building, which is in early English-Gothic style, was designed by a Royal Engineer Colonel J A Fuller.

The original beauty and architecture of the main building has been maintained.
