Centre should announce 'national package' for farmers: BJP

Hyderabad, Jul 14 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu today demanded that the UPA government announce a 'national package' for the farming comunity in order to prevent suicide by peasants due to debt.

Speaking to newspersons here, he said the 'Vidharbha package' for farmers, announced by Prime Minister Manomohan Singh would not solve the problems of entire farming community in the country.

He said the Centre should prepare a comprehensive package to protect the farmers from debt trap in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Punjab.

The BJP would hold agitations against the Centre for not taking adequate measures to tackle farmers' suicides from July 17 in the country, Mr Naidu said adding the party would also organise a one-day hunger fast on the same day and resort to agitational programmes in front of Parliament during the coming monsoon session.
